the history of
villa visconti

Embark on a Journey through Time.

Stepping onto the grounds of Villa Visconti transports one back to a time when grandeur and elegance were the norm. This stunning villa, located at the edge of the historic centre of Vimercate, is a true gem of the neoclassical era. Villa Visconti was designed in 1804 by the renowned architect Leopoldo Pollack for "Mons. Prevosto Visconti di Vimercate," and it is a masterpiece of architecture and history.

The villa's neoclassical style is evident in its U-shaped complex that forms an open courtyard, enclosed by a curvilinear gate. As one walks through the gate, it feels as though they are stepping into a different world, one where beauty and refinement reign supreme. The villa's design was intentional, meant to face the Casanova villa, which was once an ancient convent of S. Lorenzo. Both villas face each other, forming a small square characterised by a homogeneous neoclassical language.

Over the years, Villa Visconti has undergone significant architectural transformations. It has served as the headquarters of the Santo Stefano Catholic Cooperative, Casa del Fascio, and Casa del Popolo. Despite these changes, the villa has retained its charm and allure, making it a must-visit for anyone who loves history and architecture.
